One Nation Under God

About 5 years ago, Byron and I served on a panel in a meeting with local religious leaders in the Chicago area. There were representatives from essentially every religion you can think of. The goal was to brainstorm ways to legislate peace, using our religion to support every point. People spoke passionately about their beliefs without name calling and knives throwing. We didn’t always agree but inevitably came to agreement that the center of our beliefs had a common theme of love and peace.

In a time like this we, America, must remember that the separation of church and state clause was originally in place to keep the government from interfering with religious beliefs and functions. I believe if our country is ever going to obtain peace, we need the government to lead with the very God honoring practices and policies that cultivate peace.

The Bible is very clear about the fruit of evil and sin being death and destruction. You don’t have to serve or believe in God to recognize that His guidance is just and ideal. And at some point, doing what’s best for humanity has to take priority over greed, power, and violence. If we desire unity, peace and prosperity, we must repent and allow Jesus to be the Head of our lives. We need to truly become one nation under God and trust in Him again.

“You will keep him in perfect peace,
Whose mind is stayed on You,
Because he trusts in You.”
-Isaiah 26:3
